An original Canadian setting of the WWI poem written in May 1915 by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae the day after McCrae's friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, was killed by a German artillery shell. Composed in 2009, this setting was revised in 2025 to include a more substantial piano accompaniment. The trumpet soars above the lyrics, which are set in a simple style to keep the focus on the cherished poetry. (MIDI audio of this revised version is included in the sampler at the bottom of this page.) This setting is ideal for Remembrance day and military occasions. Multiple copies can be printed for ensemble use.
