The members of the Grenadier String Quartet met as section leaders of the York University Symphony Orchestra, and perform regularly as a string quartet in the Toronto area.  The quartet recently performed the works of eleven current composers in the Toronto Strings Composition Workshop at the Canadian Music Centre and officially premiered two new works in 2020:  Clare Pellerin's Psyche String Quartet, and Brendan Culver's String Quartet in C#.  The Grenadier quartet enjoys performing all classical styles of music, from renaissance to contemporary, and has also explored pop, jazz, Persian, and Celtic genres.  The quartet members are drawn to hybrid music that can bring diverse audiences together, as well as to the canonical music we all hold so dearly.  We hope to achieve a synthesis of art with friends and collaborators in which music, the spoken word, visual art, and dance are merged to communicate deeper truths and embolden and engage our audience.  We seek to unveil the meaning within the music, and to bring to life the people and stories behind it.

The Grenadier String Quartet features four strong and thoughtful musicians. They have a tight ensemble energy, and their collective sound is vivid and lively. I admire their enthusiastic support of new music and I will always be thrilled to have my music in their hands! Their musicianship is top-notch.”

Edward Enman, composer
