The members of the Grenadier String Quartet met as section leaders of the York University Symphony Orchestra, and although we currently live in different cities, we are always together in spirit. The quartet has performed the works of many contemporary Canadian composers in string workshops at the Canadian Music Centre in Toronto, and officially premiered two new works in 2020: Brendan Culver's String Quartet in C# and Clare Pellerin's Psyche String Quartet. The Grenadier quartet enjoys performing all classical styles of music, from renaissance to contemporary, and has also explored pop, jazz, Persian, and Celtic genres. The quartet members are drawn to hybrid music that can bring diverse audiences together, as well as to the canonical music we all hold so dearly. We hope to achieve a synthesis of art with friends and collaborators in which music, the spoken word, visual art, and dance are merged to communicate deeper truths and embolden and engage our audience. We seek to unveil the meaning within the music, and to bring to life the people and stories behind it.
